It was a combo of growing frustration on the topic, a really bad day and the need to vent. Just to clarify, they STILL do this, although he has since changed his profile to 'private'. I guess now just those of us privileged enough to be his friend get to read the drivel....err....poetry. Thanks Stephanie! One, bad public posting etiquette. Two, insecure, jealous people trying to lay claim to someone they are unsure about. On the etiquette issue, I see public comment posting on Myspace becoming a big mess. Often times things that should be said in an email are simply posted in comments. I have also seen people post comments in sarcasm about other people who are friends, and if read in a serious tone, could be considered a big diss. This of course implies that by leaving the comment on your page you are encouraging the bad behavior. Sometimes removing the comment makes the initial poster feel dissed, and can cause trouble in relations that way as well, especially if they fall into the second category... The jealous, insecure people who leave comments like that to lay claim to their BF or GF really get me. If your lover was wanting to be claimed they would have a picture of the two of you together as their main profile pic. And nothing screams "My S.O. has read my myspace email and threatened to leave me if I don't post a pic of her and I together" more than a "we're together" profile main pic. Thanks for posting this piece - I'm glad to not be the only one who has these frustrations! I must also agree with you, I find it is a sign of two things. One, bad public posting etiquette. LOL I should have put that in there, heartgnosis. I am guilty of the picture comments, but I at least try to find totally funny, tasteless or just plain odd ones, glitter-cute is not my thing. I don't like that they seem to be slightly altered variations of each other. It's as if they can find the SAME digital sparkly pic of a rose and glue that into the comment then the only finishing touch needed is some half-literate phrase regarding their "luv" for the nitwit they're posting to. MySpace is a cool concept for sure, but damn if hasn't become the gold standard for UGLY on the web! lol Also, I agree the video/pic posting issue.. We want PROOF not promises! ;-) I absolutely agree with you about the sappy comments, but for a slightly different reason. I don’t like that they seem to be slightly altered variations of each other.
